Professional Experience

As a highly effective problem-solver and communicator, I am looking to utilize my Masters of Instructional Design and Learning Technologies degree along with my background of Career and Technical Education School Counseling experience.  For the last fifteen years, I have had various opportunities to write curriculum, create content, and present the content to students, parents, staff, and other education professionals.  Over that time, I am most proud of utilizing data to assist our school building in doubling our enrollment, advocating for the hiring of additional counseling staff, and creating one of the largest student groups on campus.

WORK EXPERIENCE

A.W. Beattie Career Center | Allison Park, PA | School Counselor                                                                                2011-Present

  • Collaborates with current Advisory Board Members on the School Guidance Plan and program goals

  • Responsible for the creation, editing, and testing process of a new student online application as well as the creation of guides for students, parents, and district staff to utilize the application in the Job Ready 360 platform

  • Creates and teaches various Counseling Curriculum related to Career and College Readiness, Budgeting, Time Management, Study Skills, Healthy Relationships, Mental Health Disorders, etc.

  • Collects, processes, and analyzes enrollment data to improve admission rubric and enrollment procedures

  • Leads and participates in SAP, IEP, District Counselors, Crisis Response Team, and other staff meetings

  • Monitors student academic/emotional progress through multiple individual and group counseling sessions each week

  • Observes individual student academic/emotional progress and achievement while modeling decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Facilitates multiple individual counseling and peer mediation sessions

  • Provides tours for prospective students as well as assists with new student recruitment

  • Interacts with district school counselors to promote academic, social, and career success for students

  • Co-facilitates student-led mental health group that provides opportunities to implement positive school culture activities and volunteer in the community

  • Actively participating in the implementation stage of the School Counseling Framework

  • One of approximately thirty School Counselors across the state to create School Counseling Framework for Pennsylvania’s Standard Aligned System (SAS)

  • Worked in the sub-group “Define” tasked with writing introduction for framework

  • Worked in a smaller sub-group to create a crosswalk of the ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors with the CEW standards

  • Led a small Career and Technical Education (CTE) work group to strategize useful ways for School Counselors to utilize CTE with their K-12 students

  • Responsible for editing the CTE work group document in a timely manner to submit to the state

  • Co-wrote the Career Development and Rural Populations for the School Counseling Framework

  • Actively participated in a discussion of implementation strategies for the framework to be rolled out across the state
